Before the operation:
- The doctor asks the patient to perform some necessary tests to see his or her health.
- The patient undergoes a full eye exam.
- Your doctor will discuss with you the options that are right for you and explain the surgical plan.
- Discuss with your doctor your expectations and hopes for the operation and what end result you desire.
- You should refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for at least 30 days before the procedure.
- Fasting completely for 8 hours before the procedure.
About the operation:
After anesthesia, the surgeon makes an incision along the upper eyelid, then begins to remove excess skin, muscle, and fat, and after completion closes the wound. On the lower eyelid, the surgeon also makes an incision just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid. The doctor removes or redistributes excess fat, muscle, and sagging skin, and then closes the wound. The operation takes about one to three hours depending on the patient’s condition.
Post-eyelid plastic surgery:
It is necessary to get a complete rest in the first 48 hours after the operation, and commit to the following rules:
- Apply cold compresses 4 or 5 times a day to reduce swelling.
- Use ointments and eye drops prescribed to you by your doctor.
- Raise the head above the chest during sleep.
- Avoid smoking.
- Avoid strenuous physical activities.
