Rhinoplasty is performed in two ways:

Closed rhinoplasty:

is a procedure suitable for people who are not looking for major adjustments. In this type, the incisions are hidden inside the nose and do not leave any visible scarring.

Open rhinoplasty:

An incision is made through the tissue column that separates the nostrils and the doctor corrects and reshapes the structure of the nose.

Candidates for rhinoplasty:

  • The person must be over 18 years of age.
  • Does not suffer from heart problems.
  • Does not suffer from lung problems.
  • Non-pregnant women.

Before the operation:

  • The doctor asks the patient to perform some necessary tests to see his or her health.
  • Your doctor will discuss with you the options that are right for you and explain the surgical plan.
  • Discuss with your doctor your expectations and hopes for the operation and the final result you desire.
  • You should refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for at least 30 days before the procedure.
  • Fasting completely for 8 hours before the procedure.

About the operation:

After anesthesia, the surgeon makes incisions and begins to change the shape of the nasal bone and cartilage depending on the amount to be removed. The doctor may add or remove cartilage or remove excess parts of the bone.

When the doctor finishes making the changes, the skin and tissue return to their place and the wound is closed.

The process takes one to two hours, and it can take longer if the situation is more complicated.

Post-rhinoplasty:

The patient should follow the doctor’s instructions and advice to promote healing and obtain optimal results, by

  • Sleep as vertically as possible on the first two nights to reduce the risk of edema.
  • Avoid wearing glasses for the first 4 or 6 weeks.
  • Be as careful as possible about the exposure of the face to trauma.
  • Eat foods rich in fiber such as vegetables and fruits.
  • Avoid physical activities and strenuous exercise.
